The EPSA Summer University is a week-long event, it occurs every year in different countries across Europe. I always knew I wanted to immerse myself into EPSA and so when I saw this being shared on Facebook I read into it and knew this was where to begin! As It was going to be my first EPSA event, I was pretty nervous, not only would I be going to a country I’d never been to before, but also plunging myself into the Polish culture! I can now say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! If the idea of doing something makes you nervous, you just know it must be worthwhile.

Throughout the week we attended workshops and training sessions, towards the end of the week we took part in a Public Health Campaign. This was on Hygiene Awareness: to educate the public of Bialystok on the types of hygiene and raising awareness for the importance of hygiene. We worked alongside dentistry students, which allowed us to share our knowledge and gain interprofessional experience.

I was primarily on the hand hygiene desk, where I demonstrated the key steps of hand washing to young children. I enjoyed interacting with the children, as their enthusiasm was infectious and was the highlight of my day! The language was far from a barrier; the children were keen to copy the steps I was showing them and were thrilled to be rewarded with balloons!
