Success in the Pre-reg Year
A pre-registration pharmacist is a professional with professional responsibilities. You are no longer a student and your attitude and behaviour should reflect this.
The pre-registration training year is an opportunity to learn, develop and grow both personally and professionally. It’s an opportunity to put all learning from the MPharm degree into practice and to build skills through a range of experiences across the many settings which pharmacists now work.
Focus on providing the best care for your patients, and the rest will follow. Don’t ask what you need to know for the exam, ask yourself what kind of pharmacist you want to be. The registration exam is 4.5 hours of your life, spend more time thinking and preparing for your career over the next 40 years!
Selecting a Pre-reg Placement
You wouldn’t choose a hotel for your summer holiday without first reading reviews on it – treat your pre-reg the same! Talk to past pre-regs that worked there, arrange to meet the pharmacist and pharmacy team. Find out whether you’ll be spending the full 12 months in one training site, or will you have opportunities to experience other sectors, or other pharmacies within the same company? Will you be given time to reflect on your learning and revise for the exam when the time comes?
Green Light Campus
Green Light Campus is the education and training department within Green Light Pharmacy, which we set up in 2014. My role is to lead the team at GL Campus to provide a range of educational programmes for pharmacists, beginning with MPharm students, continuing throughout the pre-registration training year, and on to qualified pharmacists.
