Policy Officer - Agape Thamar

The Policy Officer actively works towards actioning approved Association policies and ensures that the Association is working within these policies.

I’m Agape Thamar, a fourth-year pharmacy student at the University of Portsmouth and I am honoured to have the opportunity to work in the role of the Policy Officer for the 2024-2025 Executive Mandate.

As an advocate for accessibility and equity, I’m committed to addressing the unique challenges faced by students and pharmacy professionals when it comes to diversity, mental wellbeing and health inequalities.

Policy is the bridge between ideas and implementation.

While conversations about vital topics—such as queer education in healthcare, advocating for fair natural hair policies, and ensuring healthcare providers are competent in treating diverse skin complexions—are essential, policy is where these discussions become reality.

My focus will be on widening accessibility for students and pharmacy professionals.

Additionally, I’ll continue advocating for sickle cell disease awareness and addressing health inequalities affecting minority ethnic groups.

Collaborating with BPSA members, we’ll generate innovative ideas that translate into actionable policies.

I look forward to working alongside my fellow members of the Executive team as well as hearing from the BPSA members to continue the vision of the Association.
